ECRI general policy recommendation no. 7 on national legislation to combat racism and racial discrimination (adopted on 13 December 2002)

Abstract

Recommends to the governments of member States: a. to enact legislation against racism and racial discrimination, if such legislation does not already exist or is incomplete ; b. to ensure that the key components set out below are provided in such legislation. Key elements of national legislation against racism and racial discrimination include: Definitions of racism, direct racial discrimination, indirect racial discrimination; Constitutional law; Civil and administrative law; Criminal law and, Common provisions.
