AbstractThe aim of the book is to pass on the remains of Greek Jewish culture to the younger generation, and record the history of the Jewish community and the thriving Jewish cultural and social activity of pre-war times. The book is dedicated to Holocaust victims and to the future generations, in the framework of the commemorative events for the National Remembrance Day for Jewish Greek Martyrs and Heroes of the Holocaust, January 27. It details the stories of Greek Jews, 86 percent of whom died in Nazi concentration camps and describes the activities of non-Jewish Greeks who risked their lives to save Jews. It contains photographs of monuments around Greece. Teams of students - members of the Jewish Youth of Greece and other organisations - searched through libraries, archives and museums to produce a brief history of Jewish communities in Greece. Each chapter is dedicated to one town or city, starting in the north and tracing the progress of persecution by the occupying forces. .
