This meeting brings together 60 experts from the field of education from across Europe with a variety of professional backgrounds in the education field. The sessions will focus on the opportunities that online learning offers in teaching about different biases and discrimination. Experiences made and insights gained when developing and implementing the ODIHR and Anne Frank House teaching materials on anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination with the partners in 14 countries form an important background for the meeting.

Launch event for teaching materials to combat anti-Semitism for Lithuanian secondary schools

Place: Vilnius, 2 July 2009
Organisers: ODIHR ; Ministry of Education and Science of Lithuania

This presentation introduced Lithuanian-language teaching tools to help teenagers understand the sources of anti-Semitism in a wider international context.

The aim was also to increase students' knowledge about historic and current anti-Semitism in Lithuania and in Europe, and to support Lithuanian educators more generally in addressing stereotypes and prejudice.

The launch was hosted by the Ministry of Education and Science. Among the speakers where Gintaras Steponavicius, Minister of Education and Science of Lithuania, and Ambassador Janez Lenarcic, Director of the ODIHR.

Following the launch, professional teacher trainers attended a two-day training seminar, delivered by the Lithuanian experts involved in the development of the material.

International expert meeting on the OSCE/ODIHR teaching materials to combat anti-Semitism in Europe

Eighteen experts from eleven countries that have been involved in the development and/or the implementation of the ODIHR teaching materials to combat anti-Semitism took part in this meeting. The experts met in order to exchange experiences, to compare good practices and to plan strategies for the implementation of the materials in twelve countries. The aim of the meeting was to provide a possibility to discuss the success as well as the potential challenges of the implementation and to outline future possibilities.
