People of African descent (PAD) project event

OSCE ODIHR's Tolerance and Non-Discrimination Department is organizing a roundtable meeting presenting the results of a two-year long project aimed at developing the capacities and supporting People of African Descent (PAD) representatives and communities in the OSCE region. The event is co-sponsored by the United States Mission to the OSCE and is timed to coincide with the annual commemoration of the International Day against Racism on March 21.

The purpose of the meeting is to present a number of projects that were managed by ODIHR supporting the activities of grassroots organizations in some participating States. The meeting is part of ODIHR's continued effort to build the capacity of representatives and people of African descent in the region to respond more adequately to hate crimes and hate incidents as well as foster better working relationships between them and the various national and international agencies involved in these issues.

People of African descent study tour and presentation to the United States Department, Congressional Black Caucus, United States Helsinki Commission and selected civil rights groups/organisations

The study tour was part of a project funded by the United States delegation to the OSCE, that took seventeen participants from ten participating States to the United States to meet with government officials, civil rights organisations and representatives and to present issues of racism, discrimination and hate crimes/hate speech that are pertinent to them in their respective countries. The tour was building upon previous ODIHR events and activities (Roundtable in Vienna in November 2011 and Hate crimes training workshop in Warsaw in October 2012) related to people of African descent communities in the OSCE region.

ODIHR meeting with Polish Ministry of Interior, police and African community

ODIHR's Tolerance and Non-Discrimination Department is organizing a roundtable meeting with representatives of the Polish Ministry of Interior, police officials, border-guard and immigration officers, and members of the African community in Poland. The purpose of the meeting is to facilitate communication between these groups and explore areas for potential future outreach collaboration.

OSCE Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting on Combating Racism, Intolerance and Discrimination in Society through Sport

This Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting offers a platform for exchange among different stakeholders and serves as an opportunity for OSCE participating States to share and exchange good practices and strategies on how to develop measures aimed at promoting diversity, integration and equality. Special attention will be paid to sport due to its significance and potential to build social cohesion.

Roundtable for civil society on hate crimes data collection and confronting intolerance

ODIHR’s Tolerance and Non-Discrimination Department is organizing a two-part meeting for civil society in Vienna on 18 and 19 April 2012.

The first part of the meeting, on 18 April, will provide participants from civil society with an opportunity to exchange good practices in the monitoring and collection of data on hate crimes. Civil society representatives will also give their feedback on how ODIHR utilizes their contributions to the annual hate crimes report.

The second part of the meeting, on 19 April, will focus on the role of civil society in confronting contemporary forms of intolerance. During the discussions, participants will develop recommendations for the Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting on Combating Racism, Intolerance and Discrimination in Society through Sport.

Commemoration events for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Two days of events to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
On the first day a workshop was held and a launch of ODIHR's new publication, "Hate Crime Laws: A Practical Guide". On the second day a roundtable discussion took place focusing on racism and xenophobia, "Racism in the OSCE Region: Old Issues, New Challenges".
